Field Hockey Falls in Overtime at Brockport

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Allegheny field hockey team opened their 2025 campaign on the road at Brockport, falling to the Golden Eagles 2-1 in overtime.

After a back-and-forth opening 10 minutes of play, the Gators broke through for the first goal of the game. With less than three minutes left in the frame, Caroline Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) dribbled through traffic and struck from about seven yards out. The shot was deflected in front of the net to the back for the Gators' first goal of the season.

Allegheny controlled the pace of the second quarter, outshooting the Golden Eagles 6-2. However, neither team was able to find the back of the net as the Gators took their 1-0 lead into the half.

The 1-0 lead remained until the latter minutes of the third. Brockport tied the game up on a short goal following a scrum in front of the net.

The game remained deadlocked at one in the final minutes of regulation. The Golden Eagles had the first opportunity late in the game, but Rowan O'Toole (Glen Burnie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) turned the shot away. Smith had a shot with a minute remaining, but it went just wide as the game went into overtime.

After a defensive take away, the Gators had the first shot of overtime, but Maddy Keenan's (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Trafford) attempt was kicked away. O'Toole then made a save on the other end, but Brockport earned a penalty corner. The initial shot was deflected and the Golden Eagles were able to follow up in front of the net, scoring the game winner as the Gators fell 2-1 in their season opener.
