Gators Blank Juniata, 5-0

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Allegheny field hockey team picked up a 5-0 shutout win against Juniata Saturday (Aug. 30) in a neutral site contest played at Brockport.
 
The Gators kept up the pressure early in the game, earning three penalty corners. The offense broke through for their first goal with five minutes left in the frame. Megan Seymour (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) deflected in a shot in front of the net as the Gators took the lead.
 
After a scoreless second quarter, the Gators came alive for three goals in the third. The first goal of the quarter came in the 32nd minute. After the Gators created a turnover, Caroline Smith (Colorado Springs, Colo./Liberty) set up Jamie Marchewka (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) for a short-ranged goal. Two minutes later, Maddy Keenan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Trafford) dribbled through traffic and found Smith up ahead as the lead reached 3-0. The final goal of the frame came in the 43rd minute. Seymour delivered for the second time on the afternoon as she picked up a loose ball in front of the net and buried it.
 
Allegheny tacked on one additional goal in the fourth quarter. This time, Samantha Mura (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) scored unassisted to wrap up the scoring.
