Gators Open PAC Tournament with Win Against Westminster

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The third-seed Allegheny baseball team opened up play at the 2025 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship tournament against fourth-seed Westminster Wednesday (May 7), defeating the Titans 4-1.

The Titans threatened with back-to-back singles in the first but a 4-6-3 double play started by second baseman Nick Banez (Edmonds, Wash./Meadowdale) got the first two outs. Banez then made another tough play on a ground ball up the middle to get the Gators out of the situation unscathed.

Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel (Texas)) hit a one-out single to left in the bottom of the first. William Wolff (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast) followed up with a single to left center, moving Bryant-Dawson to third. After a tag out at home, JD Robinson (Round Hill, Va./Woodgrove) brought Wolff around from second on a RBI single to center, putting the first run of the game on the scoreboard.

In the third, the Titans had a one-out single but another double play turned by Banez got the Gators out of the inning.

Wolff and starting pitcher Matt Jennings (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) had singles in the bottom of the third, but the Titans recorded a double play to get out of the frame.

Westminster took advantage of an error in the sixth to score an unearned run, tying the game.

Similar to the Gators' third inning, Wolff and Jennings had back-to-back singles in the sixth. Robinson loaded the bases when he laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached first on an error. Alejandro Samayoa (Katonah, N.Y./John Jay Cross River) singled down the third base line, driving in Wolff and Jennings as they regained the lead, 3-1. Gavin White (Espyville, Pa./Conneaut Area) drew a walk to load the bases once again. Grant Dowden (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) hit into a fielder's choice, but it brought Robinson home as the lead reached 4-1.

The Titans had a pair of two-out singles in the seventh, but Jennings got the Gators out of the inning with his fifth strikeout of the game.

Harrison Ashley (Jupiter, Fla./The Benjamin School) pitched the final two innings for the Gators. He allowed just one hit in the eighth and capped off a 1-2-3 ninth with a looking strikeout to seal the win in the team's opening game of the tournament.
