PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's lacrosse team was unable to keep up with Chatham University on Wednesday night in a 24-7 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss to the Cougars.
The Gators (4-8, 1-3 PAC) wasted little time getting on the scoreboard to kick off the midweek matchup on the lights. Allegheny received the game's first possession after a faceoff violation. After a few passes around the offensive end of the field,
JP Rakis (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson) snuck around from behind the cage to score. It took only 30 seconds for the Gators to jump ahead 1-0.
Even after the Cougars (8-5, 3-1 PAC) scored the next three goals, Allegheny responded swiftly with a man-up marker from
Jack Cushwa (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) at the 6:18 mark of the first quarter.
It remained a one-goal game until Chatham pieced together its longest run of unanswered goals that bridged the first and second quarters. The Cougars began to pull away after netting eight in a row, including two extra-man goals early in the second quarter.
Tomi Horsley (Salt Lake City, Utah/Brighton) and
Jason Spindel (Medina, Ohio/University Prep) got two back near the end of the opening half, but Chatham entered the break up 12-4.
The second half was much the same, as the Gators were limited to just three goals while struggling to suppress the Chatham attack.
