MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Freezing temperatures outside forced the Allegheny College men's tennis team inside the David V. Wise Center, but the cold couldn't prevent the Gators from beating Geneva College on Tuesday, 7-0.
The two-time defending Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) champions from Allegheny (14-6, 4-0 PAC) posted their fourth consecutive clean sheet against a conference opponent in a span of five days. Halfway through the PAC schedule, the Gators, ranked No. 50 in the country in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll, seem poised once again to earn the top seed for the PAC tournament.
After celebrating Senior Day before the match, Allegheny's two seniors helped the Gators take down Geneva (2-9, 0-5 PAC).
Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) was a 6-1 winner in No. 1 doubles alongside
Kristian Janci (Kysucké Nové Mesto, Slovakia/The British International School Shanghai), while
Will Jarvie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) teamed with
Benedek Kaibas (Salgótarján, Hungary/Mikszáth Kálmán Gimnázium) for an identical score in the No. 3 match.
In singles action, the senior duo combined to win 24 of 25 possible games. Hedlund rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Ben Busler in the No. 2 match. Meanwhile, Jarvie was one of four Gators with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win out of the No. 6 spot.Â
