Baseball Takes Game One in Split with Titans

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny baseball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at home Saturday (April 26) with Westminster.

The Gators took game one 9-5 but fell in the nightcap 10-5.

Game One - Allegheny 9, Westminster 5

The Gators struck first in the opening frame. Matt Jennings (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. William Wolff (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast) drove Jennings in with a single through the right side of the infield.

The score stayed that way until the fourth when the Titans produced two runs on three hits in the frame.

Wolff led-off the bottom of the inning with a double down the third base line. An infield single by JD Robinson (Round Hill, Va./Woodgrove) put two runners for Liam Irving (Olney, Md./Sherwood). Irving grounded out, but brought Wolff in to tie the game. Tyler Skaggs (Champion Heights, Ohio/Champion) followed up with a line drive past the shortstop, plating Robinson as the Gators regained the lead, 3-2.

In the fifth, Jennings had an infield single with two outs. Wolff pushed the lead to three runs as he cleared the left center fence for a two-run home run. The home run was his fourth of the year.

The Gators added four runs in the eighth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Alejandro Samayoa (Katonah, N.Y./John Jay Cross River) doubled to right field, clearing the bases to make it 8-2. Tommy Landsnes (Richmond, Va./Brunswick Academy) then drove Samayoa in with a single as the lead reached 9-2.

The Titans loaded the bases in the ninth. They scored one run on a walk, and then with two outs had a two RBI single. However, Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel (Texas)) tallied three strikeouts in the inning to earn the save as the Gators took game one.
