UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – A three-run home run by
Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel (Texas)) in the first inning gave the Allegheny baseball team an early lead as they defeated John Carroll 6-1 on the road Tuesday (April 29) in non-conference action.
The Gators got to work quickly in the top of the first. Starting pitcher
Matt Jennings (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) had an infield single before
William Wolff (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast) reached on an error to put two runners on. On a 3-2 pitch, Bryant-Dawson belted the ball over the right field fence for a three-run home run. The home run marked his team-leading seventh of the season.
Allegheny added to their lead in the third. Bryant-Dawson drew a two out walk and stole second.
JD Robinson (Round Hill, Va./Woodgrove) followed up with a single to left field, plating Bryant-Dawson to make it 4-0.
The Blue Streaks loaded the bases in fifth with no outs. However, Jennings guided the Gators out of the situation allowing just one run to score on a sacrifice fly.
The Gators made up the run and more in the eighth. Robinson led-off the inning with a single. After a sacrifice bunt by
Ty Eberhardt (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hopewell) moved him to second, a hit by
Grant Dowden (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) put runners on the corners.
Gavin White (Espyville, Pa./Conneaut Area) drove Robinson home on an all-safe fielder's choice as the Gators pushed their lead to 5-1. After that,
Alejandro Samayoa (Katonah, N.Y./John Jay Cross River) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A sacrifice fly by
Tommy Landsnes (Richmond, Va./Brunswick Academy) allowed Dowden to score as the lead reached 6-1.
Tai Hopkins (Meadville, Pa./Cathedral Prep) pitched the final two innings, allowing just one hit while striking out three batters to seal the win.

- Jennings earned the win. In a career-high 7.0 innings of work, he allowed just one earned run on four hits. At the plate, he helped his cause with a hit and a run scored.
- Hopkins pitched the final 2.0 innings, allowing one hit while striking out three.
