Gators Drop Home Game to Baldwin Wallace

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny baseball team's comeback fell short as they were unable to overcome a big fourth inning by Baldwin Wallace as they fell to the Yellow Jackets at home, 10-7, Monday (April 14) in non-conference action in Meadville.

In the first, both teams threatened with two runners on, but neither side was able to push a run across.

The Gators struck first in the second. Noah Philson (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) singled with one out. Nick Banez (Edmonds, Wash./Meadowdale) was hit by a pitch to put two runners on for Alejandro Samayoa (Katonah, N.Y./John Jay Cross River). Samayoa doubled to left to bring Philson in for the game's first run. An error loaded the bases before a wild pitch allowed Banez to reach home, extending the lead to 2-0.

The lead was short lived as the Yellow Jackets scored two runs on two hits in the third to tie the game.

Baldwin Wallace added to their lead in the fourth as they brought in seven runs off of four hits, two hit by pitches and a walk, taking a 9-2 lead.

Tommy Landsnes (Richmond, Va./Brunswick Academy) led-off the frame with a single to center field. JD Robinson (Round Hill, Va./Woodgrove) drew a walk to put two runners on. A failed pickoff attempt let Landsnes score from second and moved Robinson to third. Philson followed up with a double, his third hit of the day, to plate Robinson, cutting the lead to 9-4.

Allegheny continued to chip away at the Yellow Jacket lead as Samayoa hit a leadoff home run in the sixth to left center. The home run marked his second in as many days. Later in the inning with two runners on, Robinson single to left field, bringing around Matt Jennings (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) from second, cutting the lead to three runs.

The Yellow Jackets hit a solo home run in the eighth to push their lead back to four runs.

The Gators drew a pair of walks with one out in the bottom of the frame. Jennings and Landsnes completed a double steal to move up to second and third before a groundout by Liam Irving (Olney, Md./Sherwood) scored Jennings.

However, the Gators put another run across as they fell in non-conference action.
