Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's Tennis Downs Trine, Cedarville in Thursday Doubleheader

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Allegheny College men's tennis team extended its spring break win streak to four in a row with victories over Trine University and Division II Cedarville University on Thursday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

The Gators (7-5) began the day with a 7-0 shutout victory over Trine (5-6) in the morning. In the evening, Allegheny defeated Cedarville (7-8) by a 5-2 final score.

Against the Thunder, Allegheny swept all three doubles matches. The No. 2 duo of David Rodriguez (St. Ann's, Trinidad & Tobago/Fatima College) and Arick Baldwin (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood) had the largest margin of victory with a 6-2 triumph. In singles competition, five of the six matches were won in straight sets. The lone exception was a super tiebreak win by Levente Mihaly (Békéscsaba, Hungary/Békéscsabai SZC Széchenyi István) in the No. 3 spot. After cruising to a 6-1 victory in the first set and dropping the second, 6-3, Mihaly secured the match in the tiebreaker, 10-6.

The Gators also swept the doubles portion of their contest against the Division II Yellow Jackets. However, four of the six singles bouts featured a third set or a tiebreak, and two needed both to decide a winner. Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) pushed Roberto Esquivel to a third set but fell 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (3). In the fourth spot, Rodriguez prevailed in a hard-fought battle with Penn Morrison, 6-0, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (3).
