WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The Allegheny softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader on day three of The Spring Game in Florida Tuesday (March 4).
A Gator rally came up short in game one as they fell 7-3 against Lebanon Valley and 9-0 against Concordia (Wis.).
Game One - Lebanon Valley 7, Allegheny 3
After a lead-off walk, the Flying Dutchmen took advantage of an error to plate a run in the first. They threatened again in the second with a runner on third and no outs, but
Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) guided the Gators out of the inning unscathed with a groundout followed by a pair of strikeouts.
In the bottom of the second,
Audrey Blarr (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) recorded the first hit for the Gators with two outs. She stole second but the Gators were unable to bring her home.
In the fourth, Lebanon Valley added three runs on four hits to take their lead to 4-0.
Belardinelli doubled to left center to start the bottom of the fourth. However, the Flying Dutchmen got out of the inning without allowing a run across.
The Flying Dutchmen lead reached 7-0 as they scored three runs on four hits once again in the fifth.
Morgan Kinney (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick) reached second on an error with one out in the bottom of the fifth. An infield pinch hit single by
Avery Magee (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) put runners on the corners with two outs.
Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) delivered a single up the middle to score Kinney.
Allegheny made up a pair of runs in the sixth.
Olivia Devries (Kent, Ohio/Field) led-off with a ground rule double to right center.
Catherine Burkett (Harborcreek, Pa./Harbor Creek) pinch ran for her and moved to third on a bloop single by Blarr.
Cameron Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) singled through the left side to score Burkett. A groundout by Kinney brought Blarr home for the Gators' third run.
After holding Lebanon Valley off the scoreboard in the top of the frame, the Gators had one more chance in the bottom of the seventh. However, the Gators were unable to push another run across as they fell in their first game of the day.
Inside the Box
- Blarr had a pair of singles and scored a run.
- Belardinelli and Devries both doubled.
- Phillips and Long each singled and drove in a run.
- Kinney recorded a RBI.
- Magee had a pinch hit infield single.
- Belardinelli struck out seven batters.
Game Two - Concordia (Wis.) 9, Allegheny 0 (5 innings)
In the top of the first, Phillips led off with a single to shallow center and Belardinelli was walked. However, the Gators left the runners stranded. Concordia put a runner on in the bottom of the frame, but centerfielder Blarr turned a double play after charging towards and catching a bloop pop-up.
The Falcons got on the board first, scoring a run off three hits in the second.
After a two-out error in the fourth, the Falcons rallied, scoring eight runs on seven hits to push their lead to 9-0.
Samantha Dzierba (Colden, N.Y./Orchard Park), who entered to pitch the inning prior, started the fifth inning with a bloop single to right field, moving to second on a wild pitch. However, the Gators were unable to produce a run as they fell in five innings.

- Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central), Rachel Seneca (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt), Dzierba and Phillips recorded hits.
