ORLANDO, Fla. -- On Monday, the Allegheny College men's tennis team began its spring break trip with two victories over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Adrian College.

The Gators (5-5) took down the Fighting Engineers of Rose-Hulman (2-4), 5-2, in the morning before sweeping the Adrian Bulldogs (4-1) in the nightcap. 

Against the Fighting Engineers, Allegheny swept all three doubles matches, while a trio of Gators needed a tiebreak to complete their two-set sweeps in singles competition. In the No. 2 spot, Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) took the first set from Tim Eckermann 7-6 (5) but cruised to a 6-1 second-set win. Similarly, David Rodriguez (St. Ann's, Trinidad & Tobago/Fatima College) defeated Owen Reynolds in the third singles match 7-6 (1), 6-0. Arick Baldwin (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood) shut out his sixth singles opponent in the first set and then closed the match with a 7-6 (2) victory in the second.

At the USTA National Campus, the Gators handed Adrian its first dual loss of the 2024-25 campaign. The top doubles teams consisting of Hedlund and Kristian Janci (Kysucké Nové Mesto, Slovakia/The British International School Shanghai) at No. 1 and Rodriguez and Baldwin at No. 2 both posted 6-0 shutout wins. The closest singles match of the evening came in the No. 1 spot between Hedlund and Brandon Falk, as the Allegheny senior handed Falk his first loss of the season, 6-3, 6-4.
