WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team fell in a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contests at Waynesburg Wednesday (March 26).
The Gators fell in extra innings, 4-3, in the opening game before dropping the nightcap 5-0.
Game One - Waynesburg 4, Allegheny 3 (8 innings)
The opening game remained scoreless until the fifth inning.
Cameron Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) was hit by a pitch to put a runner on.
Julia Perillo (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield) doubled to bring Long around for the game's first run.
The Gators added two more runs in the seventh.
Avery Magee (Chandler, Ariz./Hamilton) drew a walk with two outs.
Abby Tomkowski (Midland, Pa./Lincoln Park Performing Arts) entered to pinch run. After Perillo reached on catcher's interference,
Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) doubled to drive in the two runners as the lead grew to 3-0.
However, the Yellowjackets made up the runs in the bottom of the frame. They loaded the bases with no outs. After registering two outs, they hit a bases clearing double to send the game to extra innings.
Olivia Devries (Kent, Ohio/Field) doubled to start the eighth inning, but the Gators were unable to push a run across.
The Yellowjackets also opened the extra inning with a hit. They singled with two outs to put runners on the corners before a walkoff single scored the winning run.
Inside the Box
- Phillips had a two RBI double while Perillo had a RBI double.
- Devries recorded a double while Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) singled.
- Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) pitched 7.0 innings, allowing one earned runs on six hits while striking out five.
Game Two - Waynesburg 5, Allegheny 0
Each side presented threats early on, but the Yellowjackets struck first in the third inning, taking advantage of an error for the game's first run.
In the fourth, Long and
Audrey Blarr (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) had hits but were stranded on base.
Waynesburg added to their lead in the fifth. In the frame, they produced four runs on four hits, including a solo home run, to extend their lead to 5-0.
The Gators put base runners on in both the sixth and seventh, but were unable to push a run across as they fell in the nightcap 5-0.
Inside the Box
- Phillips had a pair of hits.
- Genareo, Blarr and Long also recorded hits in the game.
- In the start, Samantha Dzierba (Colden, N.Y./Orchard Park) struck out four while Madison Hulse (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) struck out three in relief.
