Gators Split with Bearcats

MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team split a home Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader with Saint Vincent Saturday (March 29).

The Gators fell 2-1 in game one but bounced back with a 6-3 win in game two.

Game One - Saint Vincent 2, Allegheny 1

The Gators opened the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the first. With two outs, Olivia Devries (Kent, Ohio/Field) launched a shot over the left field. The home run was her third of the season and 16th of her career.

The score remained 1-0 until the sixth when the Bearcats hit a two-run home run to take the lead.

In the bottom of the frame, Alaina Sharp (Lewistown, Pa./Mifflin County) doubled with one out before an Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) single put runners on the corners. However, Saint Vincent got out of the frame unscathed.

After a 1-2-3 top of the frame, the Gators had one last chance in the bottom of the seventh. However, the Gators were unable to make up the run as they fell 2-1 in the opening game.

After an Audrey Blarr (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) sacrifice bunt, Belardinelli doubled to the left center gap to bring home Burkett. Starting pitcher Madison Hulse (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) followed up with another RBI double. Halle Book (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) was then walked before a two RBI single up the middle by Phillips. The final run came when Phillips stole home on a double steal attempt, making it 5-0.
