MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny men's lacrosse team dropped a nonconference game against Brockport 14-6 Saturday (March 15) in Meadville.
Brockport scored the first goal of the contest but the Gators did not need much time to respond. Just 18 seconds later after
Anthony DeMarco (Olmsted Falls, Ohio/Olmsted Falls) won the ensuing faceoff,
Jack Cushwa (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) tied the game off an assist by
JP Rakis (Kensington, Md./Walter Johnson). The score remained 1-1 until late in the frame when the Golden Eagles took advantage of a turnover on a clear, making it 2-1 at the quarter break.
The Golden Eagles controlled the momentum for most of the second quarter. They scored the first five goals of the frame before
Alex Crespo (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) stopped the run on an unassisted goal. Brockport took advantage of an extra-man opportunity late in the half as they led 8-2 at the break.
The third quarter saw the Golden Eagles outpace the Gators 4-3 in a back-and-forth third quarter. After Brockport scored first, DeMarco won the ensuing faceoff and took the ball down the field and scored unassisted in just seven seconds. Rakis and
Tomi Horsley (Salt Lake City, Utah/Brighton) also scored unassisted goals in the frame as the Gators trailed 12-5 heading into the fourth.
Cushwa scored his second goal of the game in the fourth, assisted by Rakis, but the Gators were unable to overcome the deficit as they fell 14-6 at home.
