ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Allegheny College men's lacrosse team dropped a close non-conference matchup against the University of Mount Union on Wednesday night by an 11-9 final score.
Although the Gators (2-4) tied the score on four occasions, the Purple Raiders (6-1) never trailed after scoring the first goal of the evening. Trailing 4-2,
CT Graniel (Scranton, Pa./Scranton Preparatory) and
Tomi Horsley (Salt Lake City, Utah/Brighton) then found the back of the net for back-to-back markers that tied the score at 4-4 early in the second quarter. Horsley potted another goal at the 8:08 mark of the second to even the score at 5-all.
Mount Union added two more before halftime and entered the intermission up 7-5. Allegheny slashed the deficit to a single goal three times but never found the equalizer. In the fourth,
Jason Spindel (Medina, Ohio/University Prep) logged his first goal of the season, bringing the Gators with one at 9-8. However, the Purple Raiders held Allegheny off the scoreboard for the next 11 minutes to preserve the win.
