Women's Basketball Travels to William Paterson for ECAC Championship Game

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's basketball team is one game away from a championship. The Gators punched their ticket to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Championship finals and will face William Paterson University for the tournament title.

The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, March 15, at 1:00 p.m. at William Paterson, located at 300 Pompton Road in Wayne, New Jersey. The game will be held inside the Sport and Recreation Center. Fans attending the game should use Parking Lot 6 just outside the gymnasium.

Coming off one of the best seasons in recent memory, Allegheny was one of eight teams selected to participate in this year's ECAC Division III Championship tournament. The Gators reached the title game after beating Penn State Behrend in the quarterfinals, 71-61, and McDaniel College in the semifinals, 52-40.

Although the women's basketball team is competing for an ECAC championship for the first time in program history, they are not the first Allegheny varsity program to qualify for a championship game appearance at William Paterson. In the fall of 2023, the Gator volleyball team capped off a 24-win campaign by sweeping the Pioneers in the ECAC Division III Volleyball Championship on their home court.

An unfamiliar opponent, the Pioneers – members of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) – enter this weekend's matchup with a 21-8 overall record. WPU reached the NJAC semifinals for the first time since the 2022-23 season, but were eliminated by Montclair State University, 67-55. The Pioneers hosted their first two ECAC tournament games, defeating Baruch College, 81-63, and Hunter College, 88-36, to qualify for Saturday's championship. It will mark the first-ever meeting between Allegheny and William Paterson in women's basketball.

Allegheny alums and fans in the tri-state area are encouraged to attend Saturday's game between Allegheny and William Paterson to support the Gators. For those unable to attend, links for live stats and streaming video can be found on AlleghenyGators.com.
