Gators Defeat Concordia 13-8

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Allegheny baseball team picked up their second straight win to start the 2025 season as they defeated Concordia Chicago 13-8 at the RussMatt Invitational in Florida.

The Gators got to work quickly as Tyson Bryant-Dawson (Oakland, Calif./Manvel (Texas)) led-off the game with a home run, his first of the year. However, the Cougars plated two runs in the bottom of the frame to jump ahead.

After a scoreless second inning, the Gators scored four runs on four hits in the third. After Grant Dowden (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) earned a lead-off walk, Bryant-Dawson reached safely on a bunt. Matt Jennings (Birmingham, Mich./Brother Rice) singled to right field to load the bases. Dowden came across the plate on a wild pitch to tie the game. JD Robinson (Round Hill, Va./Woodgrove) drove in Bryant-Dawson to put the Gators back in front before a sac bunt by Tommy Landsnes (Richmond, Va./Brunswick Academy) scored Jennings. The scoring in the inning ended when a RBI single by William Wolff (Naples, Fla./Gulf Coast) plated Robinson, making it 5-2.

The back-and-forth continued as the Cougars tied the game in the fourth before retaking the lead with a run in the fifth.

In the sixth, the Gators produced eight runs as they pulled away from Concordia. All eight runs came with two outs. Liam Irving (Olney, Md./Sherwood) was walked before Jennings reached on an error. Robinson doubled to clear the bases and put the Gators back in front. Landes then singled to bring Robinson from second. After that, the next five Gators walked as the lead grew to 11-6. Irving brought in the final two runs of the inning on a single to right center.

Concordia made up two runs in the bottom of the frame, but neither team came across the plate in the final three innings as the Gators collected the win.
