HARMARVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's tennis team opened the spring portion of the 2024-25 season with a 6-1 loss against No. 21 nationally-ranked Carnegie Mellon University at Alpha Tennis and Fitness in Harmarville, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.
Allegheny (3-4) took only one match point from Carnegie Mellon (1-0) in the No. 2 spot in singles. In his first collegiate match, freshman
Kristian Janci (Kysucké Nové Mesto, Slovakia/The British International School Shanghai) took down CMU freshman Takeshi Koey in straight sets with identical scores of 6-3.
Junior
David Rodriguez (St. Ann's, Trinidad & Tobago/Fatima College) and sophomore
Javier Bejarano Jimenez (El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma) extended their singles matches beyond the second set. Rodriguez rebounded to take the second set against Fernando Limon by a 6-2 score, but Limon escaped the third with a 7-5 victory. Bejarano Jimenez evened his contest against Daniel Kong with a 6-4 win in the second set, but Kong took the third, 10-7, to seal his win.
