BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Allegheny women's basketball team won their second straight Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest to open conference play as they defeated Geneva 82-74 on the road Saturday (Dec. 3).
The Golden Tornadoes led early, owning a 10-5 advantage late in the opening quarter. The Gators would score the final three points of the frame to cut it to 10-8 after 10 minutes.
After scoring the final three of the first quarter, the Gators opened the second on a 12-0 run, with threes by
Isabella Antonacci (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) and
Jess Bickart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley). The Allegheny advantage reached as much as 18 points as they took a 36-21 lead into the halftime break.
The teams went back-and-forth in a high scoring third quarter. The Golden Tornadoes had a slight edge in the frame, outscoring the Gators 31-30, but the Gators maintained a 66-52 lead heading into the fourth
Geneva chipped away at the Allegheny throughout the fourth quarter, pulling within six points, 80-74, in the final minute. However, the Gators converted a pair of late free-throws while not allowing another bucket to pick up the road win.
Inside the Box
- Antonacci led the team with 24 points to go alongside eight rebounds and six assists.
- Sarah Santicola (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) recorded a double-double, tallying 15 points and 10 rebounds while also assisting on three baskets and blocking a pair of shots.
- Bickart scored 13 points with seven rebounds.
- Ava Kobus (Pittsburgh, Pa./Norwin) also tallied 13 points with five rebounds.
- Kate Leach (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) was the fifth Gator in double digits with 10 points to go with six rebounds.
- Bella Wilson (Middletown, Md./Saint John's Catholic Prep) had five points while Eyra Co (Manila, Philippines/Pike Christian Academy (Ohio)) had four rebounds and two points.
- The Gators shot 47.6% (30-of-63) from the field.
