Santicola Joins 1,000 Point Club in Win Against Mount Aloysius

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Sarah Santicola (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) netted her 1,000th career point as the Allegheny women's basketball team defeated Mount Aloysius, 84-58, at the Smokey Ballenger Classic, hosted by Otterbein, Monday (Dec. 29).
 
Santicola scored her 12th point of the contest in the final minute of the third quarter on an and-one lay-up, marking her 1,000th career point. She became the 19th Gator to achieve the feat, and just the second with 1,000 career points and at least 800 career rebounds.
 
The contest also saw Jess Bickart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) record a 19 point, 11 rebound, 10 assist triple-double. It marked the program's first triple-double since 2012.
 
The teams went back-and-forth to begin the game as they found themselves deadlocked at eight five minutes in. In the latter half of the frame, the Gators started to gain control, finishing the quarter on a 16-7 run to lead 24-15 after 10 minutes of play. Ava Kobus (Pittsburgh, Pa./Norwin) accounted for five points in that run while Isabella Antonacci (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) had four.
 
The momentum carried over to the second quarter as they outpaced the Mounties 23-7. Bickart tallied 11 points in the quarter while the Gators sank five three pointers to gain a 47-22 halftime lead.
 
Bickart finished the first half with 15 points and five assists while Antonacci had 14 points. The Gators shot 48.6% (18-of-37) from the floor while making seven three pointers.
 
The Gators started the second half on an 8-0 run before the Mounties answered with a 15-0 run. Santicola broke up the run with her 10th point of the game. In the final minute of the quarter, she scored on an and-one lay-up, marking her 1,000th career point. Karina Vasquez (San Antonio, Texas/John M. Harlan) hit a late jumper as the Gators outscored the Mounties 19-18 in the third to take a 66-40 lead into the fourth.
 
The fourth saw both sides score 18 points as the Gators captured the non-conference win.
 
Inside the Box
  • Bickart recorded a triple-double, tallying 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. She also had four steals.
  • Antonacci finished with 18 points, five assists and three rebounds.
  • Santicola put up 15 points, seven rebounds and a pair of assists as she eclipsed 1,000 career points.
  • Kate Leach (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) had six points, three rebounds and two blocks.
  • Ashlan Price (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) grabbed seven rebounds and had three assists to go with five points.
  • Eyra Co (Manila, Philippines/Pike Christian Academy (Ohio)) also had seven rebounds with four points.
  • Vasquez recorded four points.
  • Charlotte Pap (Cleveland, Ohio/Magnificat) and Megan Castor (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) hit three pointers.
  • The Gators shot 49.3% from the field (35-of-71) and had a 44-29 edge in rebounds.

  • Santicola became the 19th Gator to achieve 1,000 career points, and just the second with 1,000 points and 800 rebounds.
  • Bickart recorded the program's first triple-double since Erica Retich had one against Hiram in 2012.
  • Allegheny is now 4-0 all-time against Mount Aloysius.
