PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Allegheny women's basketball team concluded play at the Chatham Tournament Saturday (Nov. 15) against Mary Washington, falling to the Eagles 70-63.
The Eagles got out to a fast start, taking a 13-4 lead midway through the first quarter. The lead would reach 26-11 before
Eyra Co (Manila, Philippines/Pike Christian Academy (Ohio)) hit a late three to cut the lead down to 12 points heading into the second.
After back-and-forth play to start the second quarter, the Gators went on a 10-0 run with five different scorers to cut the lead to 31-26. In the final minute, Allegheny went on another big run, this time 9-0, as they gained a 36-35 lead. The Eagles converted a free-throw in the final seconds as the teams went to the locker room tied at 36.
Knotted at 41 early in the third, Co hit her second three of the game to give the Gators a three point lead. The teams continued to battle throughout the frame as a pair of late free-throws gave Mary Washington a 55-54 advantage after 30 minutes of play.
Mary Washington hit a three to start the fourth, but
Jess Bickart (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) would tie it up at 58 with a three of her own. The Eagles went on a 9-5 run to take a 67-63 lead with a minute remaining.
In the final, the Eagles held the Gators off the board as Allegheny dropped the non-conference game.
Inside the Box
- Bickart led the Gators with a season-best 22 points, hitting six three pointers. She completed a double-double with 10 rebounds while also tallying three steals and two assists.
- Co had a career-high 14 points and eight rebounds.
- Sarah Santicola (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) also recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 assists while blocking three shots.
- Isabella Antonacci (Indiana, Pa./Indiana Area) was the fourth Gator to finish in double figures with 10 points and a team-high four assists.
- Kate Leach (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) collected 10 rebounds to go with four points.
- The Gators hit nine triples and grabbed 17 offensive rebounds.
