MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny men's soccer team hosted Washington and Jefferson in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Wednesday (Oct. 8), falling to the Presidents on a late goal, 1-0.
The teams went back-and-forth in an even first half as neither team was able to find the back of the net.
Jacob Kubik-Pauw (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Hanover (N.H.)),
Arthur Every (Cranleigh, United Kingdom/Glebelands Secondary),
Lucas Henderson (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) and
Ransom Perkins (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles Preparatory School) had shots on goal while
Cadan Bennett (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) made five saves.
Cole Bowser (Forest Hill, Md./John Carroll) almost broke up the scoreless tie with a shot in the opening 90 seconds of the second half, but the attempt was stopped. The Presidents had the next opportunity several minutes later, but Bennett charged out of the net to make a stop on a shot in the box.
The game remained scoreless until the 81st minute. A through pass got the Presidents past the backline. Bennett charged out to make a play, but the shot got past him as Washington and Jefferson took the lead.
The Gators had some chances late, including a header by
Jose Cifuentes (Guatemala City, Guatemala/The Kiski School (Pa.)) with 10 seconds left, but were unable to find the equalizer.
