TRAFFORD, Pa. – Cadan Bennett (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and
Will Gruca (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) of the Allegheny men's soccer team were named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week for their performances in a pair of conference wins.
The Gators defeated both Waynesburg and Geneva 2-1 last week.
For Bennett, this marks the second time he has received the honor this season. Against Waynesburg, Bennett made 10 total stops in the game. Late in the game, he stopped a penalty kick to preserve the victory. In their second game of the week against Geneva, Bennett added five more saves. For the season, he has made 56 saves.
Gruca scored a goal in each game last week. In the Waynesburg match, he tied the game in the first half. Against Geneva, he scored the game winning goal in the 90th minute. After earning a free kick from about 35 yards out, Gruca sent a shot over the Geneva defenders and goalkeepers, tucking it just inside the post. On the season, Gruca has six goals and four assists.
The Gators are back in action Wednesday (Oct. 8) at home against Washington and Jefferson.
