Women’s Soccer Draws with Westminster, 1-1

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Allegheny women's soccer team played Westminster to a 1-1 draw on the road Wednesday (Oct. 15) in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action.

The Gators controlled the flow in the opening 45 minutes, outshooting the Titans 11-2 with five shots on target while also earning three corners. However, neither team found the back of the net as the game was scoreless at halftime.

Madeline Schneider (Poolesville, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) nearly got the Gators on the board in the 55th minute, but her shot hit off the right post.

The Gators broke up the scoreless game in the 78th minute. Karley Johnson (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community) crossed the ball from the endline to Sydney Nichols (Fort Collins, Colo./Heritage Christian Academy). Nichols took a shot from inside the box that bounced off a Titan defender and into the net for the game's first goal. The strike marked Nichol's second goal of the year.

The lead was short lived as Westminster scored in the 81st minute. After Alex Augustine (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern) made the initial stop on a close shot, the Titans quickly scored off the rebound to tie the game at one.

The Gators had a couple chances in the closing minutes but could not find the go-ahead goal as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
