MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny women's soccer team celebrated Senior Day Saturday (Oct. 11) by defeating Hiram 2-0.
Before the match, the Gators honored their four senior members:
Madison Lemanski (Bear, Del./Delaware Military Academy),
Emma Milligan (Parkesburg, Pa./Octorara),
Avarie Schott (San Antonio, Texas/Louis D. Brandeis) and
Cara Wood (Lancaster, Ohio/Bloom-Carroll).
Karley Johnson (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville Community) nearly got the Gators on the board early on, but her free kick from about 35 yards out hit off the crossbar.
In the final ten minutes of the half, the Gators ramped up the offensive pressure. Johnson and
Lauren Bowser (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) had shot attempts narrowly turned away. The pressure finally paid off with just over two minutes left. The Gators earned a corner kick with
Casey Bender (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) taking the attempt. Her service found
Serena Carnahan (Plum, Pa./Plum) who headed it in. The goal marked her first of the season.
The Gators quickly added to their lead in the second half. Less than a minute in, Johnson scored on a free kick from about 25 yards out to the top right corner. The goal marked her first of the year.
Johnson's goal proved to be the final tally of the game as the Gators collected the Senior Day shutout.
