MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team hosted Bethany in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup Friday (Oct. 10), defeating the Bison in straight sets.
The Gators won the sets 25-17, 25-13, 25-17.
After some back-and-forth play to start the match, the Gators went on a 4-0 run to take a 12-8 lead. Later in the set, the Gators rattled off another 4-0 run as Bethany called a timeout trailing 18-12. The lead held the rest of the way as the Gators captured the opening set 25-17.
Similar to the first set, the second set opened with the teams exchanging small runs. The Gators started to pull away as they went on a 7-0 run to take an 11-6 lead. After a Bison timeout, the Gator run continued, reaching 10 straight points. The Gators continued to play well the rest of the set, taking it 25-13 as they moved ahead two sets in the match.
Unlike the first two sets, the Gators jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the third set. The early run set the Gators up for the rest of the match as they concluded the conference sweep with a 25-17 third set win.
Inside the Box
- Skyler Fatola (Queen Creek, Ariz./Eastmark) shared the team lead with 10 kills while also picking up three total blocks.
- Sydney Kirk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) joined Fatola with 10 kills.
- Amaya Brooks (North Olmsted, Ohio/Lutheran West) tallied six kills while Carly Beers (Warren, Pa./Warren) had five.
- Izzy Gray (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) finished with 18 assists, nine digs and a pair of aces.
- Joanna Miller (Pittsburgh, Pa./Gateway) had 15 assists and three aces.
- Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) led the backline with 18 digs.
- Duru Akbas (Ankara, Turkey/Layton Christian Academy (Utah)) added eight digs while Carlee Pepperman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area) had seven.
