SALEM, Va. – The Allegheny field hockey team fell on the road at Roanoke 6-1 Saturday (Sept. 7) in nonconference action.
The Gators got on the board quickly, scoring in the opening minute. After earning a penalty corner, the insert from
Jenna Cassani (Belgrade, Maine/Messalonskee) found
Emily Jackson (Oreland, Pa./Springfield Township), who passed it along to
Bella Cowen (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day School) towards the far post for the finish. The goal was Cowen's first of the year. The Maroons would tie it up a couple minutes later, however, on a penalty stroke.
Roanoke broke the stalemate midway six minutes into the second quarter as they moved ahead, 2-1. Neither team was able to find the back of the net again in the half as the Gators entered halftime trailing by one.
The Maroons added one goal in the third and tacked on three more in the fourth as the Gators dropped the nonconference game.
