MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny men's soccer team opened the home portion of their 2024 schedule Wednesday (Sept. 4) against Alfred State, dropping the match to the Pioneers 2-1.
Alfred State had the first opportunity of the game with a free-kick from just outside the box 14 minutes in, but
Cadan Bennett (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) made the save on the low post shot. The Pioneers broke the stalemate in the 28th minute, scoring an unassisted goal from about 25 yards out. They tacked on a second goal less than a minute later as they led 2-0 at the half.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net again until the 89th minute of the second half.
Brady Napoleon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) finished off a shot by Nick McGee (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) that was turned away to cut the deficit to one. The goal was Napoleon's first of the season. However, the Gators were unable to find the equalizer in the final as they fell 2-1.
