GROVE CITY, PA. -- The Allegheny College football team dropped its Week 4 matchup on the road against No. 7/8 nationally-ranked Grove City College, 58-7, at the Wolverines' Robert E. Thorn Field on Saturday night.
The defending Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) champions from Grove City (3-0, 3-0 PAC) surrendered season highs in total offense, rushing yards, and passing yards to the Gators (1-3, 1-3 PAC). But those totals pale in comparison to the numbers put up by the host Wolverines, who surrendered only one last-minute touchdown.
Facing the top-ranked defense in the country, Allegheny managed 177 yards of total offense, including a season-high 83 yards on the ground. And while the Gator quarterback duo of
Trevor Brncic (Export, Pa./Franklin Regional) and
Christian Coudriet (Saint Marys, Pa./Saint Marys) combined for a higher completion percentage than that of the Wolverines, the Grove City defense picked off five passes and returned two for touchdowns.
Coudriet spoiled Grove City's shutout attempt on Allegheny's final drive. After completing passes of 11 yards to
Anthony Sines (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) and seven yards to
Curtis Knobeloch (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) to get into the red zone, the junior quarterback carried the ball the final four yards himself for the Gators' lone touchdown.
