Football Upended By Case Western Reserve

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- Case Western Reserve University overwhelmed the Allegheny College football on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Frank B. Fuhrer Field en route to a 58-14 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory.

The Spartans (4-0, 4-0 PAC), who received votes in the latest D3football.com national rankings, fired on all cylinders against the Gators (1-4, 1-4 PAC). CWRU flexed its muscle from the opening kickoff, taking it back 92 yards for a score and never looking back.

Despite the lopsided score, the Allegheny defense made some of the best plays of the afternoon. The first Spartan possession ended with an interception in the end zone by first-year corner Elisah Banks (Las Vegas, Nev./Desert Pines). Banks undercut a crossing route in the back corner of the end zone for his first career pick, just the second thrown by Case Western Reserve quarterback Alex Fromberg this fall.

Early in the second quarter, linebacker Cameron George (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) halted a CWRU drive in the red zone, sacking Fromberg and knocking the ball from his grasp. The fumble was returned 81 yards by first-year defensive back Jihad Muhammad (McDonough, Ga./Eagle's Landing) for Allegheny's first points.

The Gators didn't score again until the fourth quarter. Chris Gisewhite (Corpus Christi, Texas/Flour Bluff) capped off a 17-play, 69-yard drive with a diving five-yard touchdown reception from Christian Coudriet (Saint Marys, Pa./Saint Marys).
