D-II Clarion No Match for Women's Tennis

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's tennis team won its 10th consecutive match at the Robertson Athletic Complex on Saturday by taking down Division II PennWest Clarion with a 7-0 shutout.

Facing a D-II opponent in a dual match for the second time this fall, Allegheny (10-1) hardly broke a sweat against the Golden Eagles (1-5). Outside of the top doubles match, the Gators won 84 of 90 games played and blanked Clarion in four matches.

The exception was the No. 1 doubles match. The first-year tandem of Julia Müsseler (Munich, Germany/Käthe-Kollwitz-Gymnasium) and Evie Ellenberger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) was victorious but had to battle Clarion junior Davan Lion and senior Josie Beckerleg to a 7-5 decision.

Müsseler was one of three Gators who won their singles match without dropping a game. Müsseler took down Beckerleg in the No. 2 contest, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Maria Lounder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area) and sophomore Omega Ba (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) posted identical results in the fifth and sixth spots, respectively.
