Women's Tennis Earns Eighth Consecutive Win

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's tennis team earned another Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) shutout victory on Monday evening, as the Gators took down Geneva College, 7-0, at the Robertson Athletic Complex.

Allegheny (8-1, 5-0 PAC) extended its win streak to eight in a row and remained undefeated in conference play. It's the third time the Gators have beaten a PAC opponent with a shutout in their last four matches. However, the Golden Tornadoes (4-3, 0-3 PAC) didn't go down without a battle. The first and third singles matches were both decided with a tiebreak set, including a marathon tiebreaker that surpassed 10 points at the top of the lineup.

Emiliia Grydnieva (Kyiv, Ukraine/Optima) handed Geneva's Chloe DeSanzo her first loss of the year in the No. 1 match. Grydnieva took the lead after outstanding DeSanzo in the opening set, 7-6 (7), but she had to rebound from a 6-3 loss in the second set and secured the win in the tiebreaker, 13-11.

Nicole Serna Cassan (Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico/Grandview Preparatory (Fla.)) recovered from a 7-5 loss in the opening set against Delaney Winterhalter in the third singles match. Serna Cassan cruised to a 6-0 win in the second set, then prevailed in her tiebreaker, 10-6.

All three doubles matches ended with identical scores of 6-3 in favor of Allegheny. The top team of Julia Müsseler (Munich, Germany/Käthe-Kollwitz-Gymnasium) and Evie Ellenberger (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper Saint Clair) also handed Geneva's No. 1 team of DeSanzo and Lauren Estes their first doubles loss of the fall.
