GAMBIER, Ohio -- The Allegheny College men's tennis team had a busy weekend with 44 matches at the 2024 Kenyon College Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
The Gators faced opponents from numerous Central Region opponents, such as Centre College, Denison University, Oberlin College, Otterbein University, and the Owls from Kenyon over the two-day event. In total, Allegheny won 24 of its matches, including a 10-5 showing in doubles.
Leading the charge for the Blue and Gold were
Arick Baldwin (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood) and
Javier Bejarano Jimenez (El Puerto de Santa Maria, Spain/IES Padre Luis Coloma), the only two Gators to finish the weekend without a loss.
Baldwin was 3-0 in singles matches, including a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Oberlin's Brady Huggett and a 6-0, 6-3 straight-set sweep of Centre's Emilo Ventura Ramirez. Alongside teammate
David Rodriguez (St. Ann's, Trinidad & Tobago/Fatima College), Baldwin added three doubles wins, including two over the Colonels.
Jimenez ended the tournament with a 5-0 overall record. The first-year talent from Spain battled Kenyon's Rohan Sriram to an impressive super tiebreak victory, 7-6, 2-6, 10-5, for one of his two singles wins. Two of his three doubles triumphs with teammate
Benedek Kaibas (Salgótarján, Hungary/Mikszáth Kálmán Gimnázium) came against duos from Oberlin.
