MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play at home against Waynesburg Saturday (Sept. 21), collecting a sweep of the Yellow Jackets for their seventh straight win.
The Gators won the sets 25-17, 25-15, 25-15.
The Yellow Jackets held the lead early in the first set before an Allegheny 4-0 run tied it at seven. The teams traded the lead back-and-forth until another Gator run, this time 7-1, as they pushed ahead, 19-13. The Gators allowed just four points the rest of the time as they took the opening set 25-17.
The momentum carried over to the second for the Gators as they started out on an 8-3 run. The Allegheny advantage grew to as much as 13 as the Gators captured the set 25-15.
The start of the final set saw the teams go back-and-forth, but the Gators rattled off five straight points to take a 12-5 lead. Allegheny continued to control the pace throughout the set as they won it 25-15, opening conference play with a win.
Inside the Box
- Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) led the Gators with 12 kills to go alongside three blocks.
- Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) was also in double digits with 11 kills and four blocks.
- Carlee Pepperman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area) had seven kills and 10 digs.
- Skyler Fatola (Queen Creek, Ariz./Eastmark) added four kills.
- Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) had 21 assists while Izzy Gray (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) had 12.
- Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) and Alejandra Fernandez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville) shared the team lead with 12 digs.
- Duru Akbas (Ankara, Turkey/Layton Christian Academy ((Utah)) had seven digs and a team-high three aces.
