Allegheny Results
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's tennis team opened the fall portion of the 2024-25 season on their home courts at the Robertson Athletic Complex during the Allegheny Invitational on Sunday.
Although thunderstorms in the forecast forced the Gators to cancel Saturday's round, Allegheny faced tough competition on Sunday. Other teams in attendance included Division I Mercyhurst University, Division II teams from Walsh University and PennWest Edinboro, and D-III opponents from Baldwin Wallace University and Oberlin College.
The Gators found most of their success in doubles matches. Allegheny went 9-4 in doubles action, with every tandem earning at least one win. Leading the way was the duo of
Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) and
Levente Mihaly (Békéscsaba, Hungary/Békéscsabai SZC Széchenyi István), who went on to win all three of their doubles matches by scores of 6-3, 6-1, and 6-2.Â
Seven different Allegheny players earned a win in singles action. Newcomers
Arick Baldwin (Oakwood, Ohio/Oakwood) and
Olivier Erkens (Gouda, Netherlands/Coornhert Gymnasium) both took down Lakers from D-I Mercyhurst, with Baldwin coming back from a first-set loss to win in a tiebreak and Erkens sweeping Kazumasa Sadohara, 6-0, 6-2.
