MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's soccer team exploded for its second consecutive win, as the Gators shut out Hiram College in a non-conference contest at the Robertson Athletic Complex, 5-0.
Not only does Tuesday's victory mark the team's second in a row, but the Gators (3-4-0) tied a season-high with five goals. It's the first time Allegheny has scored at least five goals in back-to-back games since a pair of 5-0 shutouts against Oberlin College and Ohio Wesleyan University in October of 2013.
The Gators never trailed against the Terriers (1-5-0), but the Blue and Gold shifted the offense into overdrive in the second half.
Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy), who netted the game's first goal in the 17th minute, added her second off a corner kick in the 48th minute. In the 70th minute,
Taylor McKindley (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Santa Margarita Catholic) netted her first of the season off another corner, this one taken by
Olivia Wilson (Mars, Pa./Mars).
Allegheny added two insurance goals in less than two-and-a-half minutes late in the second half.
Emily Beck (Martinsburg, W.Va./Martinsburg) finished frantic a play inside the six-yard box with a high kick over the Hiram goalie to extend the lead to 4-0 in the 83rd minute. Shortly after that,
Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional) headed in another
Casey Bender (Allentown, Pa./Emmaus) corner, giving Bender her second assist of the night.
