Gators Extend Winning Streak to Six with Sweep

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Allegheny volleyball team won their sixth straight match Tuesday (Sept. 17), collecting a road sweep at Oberlin in nonconference action.
 
The Gators won the sets 25-13, 25-16 and 25-13.
 
After the Yeowomen won the opening two points, the Gators went on a 5-1 run. Not too long after that, the Gators put together a 4-0 run to move ahead 11-5. The Allegheny advantage grew to as much as six multiple times before the Gators ended the set on a 10-2 run to take the opening frame 25-13. 
 
The momentum carried over to the second set for the Gators as they opened with a 9-3 lead. Allegheny continued to control the pace of the set as their lead reached as high as 11 as they won it 25-16.
 
The Gators opened the final set on a 5-0 run. Once again, Allegheny extended their advantage to double digits in the set as they closed out with a 25-13 set win.
 
Inside the Box
  • Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) and Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) had 10 kills and two blocks apiece. Javes also had a solo block.
  • Carly Beers (Warren, Pa./Warren) added five kills.
  • Carlee Pepperman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area) had seven digs and two kills.
  • Izzy Gray (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) had 13 assists and six digs while Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) had 11 assists and three block assists.
  • Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) had a team-high 15 digs with three aces.
  • Alejandra Fernandez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville) had four aces while Duru Akbas (Ankara, Turkey/Layton Christian Academy ((Utah)) had three.
  • Sydney Kirk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) and Skyler Fatola (Queen Creek, Ariz./Eastmark) had two block assists each.

  • Allegheny won their sixth straight match, improving their record to 10-3.
  • Former conference foes, the Gators are now 42-9 all-time against the Yeowomen.
