MEADVILLE, Pa. – The Allegheny volleyball team finished their home invitational with a 4-0 record after picking up victories against Fredonia and Houghton Saturday (Sept. 14).
Game One - Allegheny 3, Fredonia 0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-7)
The Blue Devils started the set on a 6-2 run before the Gators tied it at 10. After trading points, the Gators went on a 4-0 run to take a 17-13 lead. Allegheny maintained that lead the rest of the way as they took the first set 25-20.
After back-and-forth play to start the second, a 7-1 Allegheny run put them in front, 11-5. Fredonia made it close at times, but Allegheny held them back as they moved ahead 2-0 with a 25-20 set win.
Tied at three early in the third set, the Gators rattled off three straight points to take control. Later in the set, they put together a 7-0 run off serves by
Alejandra Fernandez (Caguas, Puerto Rico/Commonwealth Parkville) to further their lead to 13-4. The Gators played strong the rest of the way, limiting the Fredonia offense, as they won the match with a 25-7 set win.
Inside the Box
- Dagney Javes (Frederick, Colo./Dawson School) led the team with 14 kills and six total blocks.
- Angelee Bawek (Goodyear, Ariz./Estrella Foothills) added nine kills and three blocks while Carly Beers (Warren, Pa./Warren) had six kills.
- Meagan Robare (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) had 21 assists while Izzy Gray (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) had 11.
- Jacy Diaz (Barranquitas, Puerto Rico/Gallatin (Tenn.)) led the Gators with 17 digs.
- Carlee Pepperman (Bellefonte, Pa./Bellefonte Area) tallied 13 digs.
- Duru Akbas (Ankara, Turkey/Layton Christian Academy ((Utah)) and Fernandez had three aces each.
Game Two - Allegheny 3, Houghton 0 (25-17, 25-19, 25-20)
The teams went back-and-forth to start before the Gators went on a 5-0 run, with a pair of aces by Akbas, to take an 11-7 lead. Allegheny kept Houghton out of reach the rest of the set as they captured the opening frame 25-17.
The teams were neck-and-neck until a 4-0 Allegheny run put them ahead, 18-14. The Gators would then end the set on a 6-1 run to push ahead in the match, 2-0.
Allegheny began the final set up 6-2 before a Houghton timeout. The Highlanders battled back to tie it up at nine. After a 3-0 run to regain control, the Gators pushed their advantage to 17-12 before the Highlanders called their second timeout. The Gators continued to play well down the stretch as they closed out a 4-0 weekend with a 25-20 third set win.

- Javes paced the Gators once again with 14 kills.
- Bawek finished with six kills.
- Pepperman had 12 digs, six kills and three aces.
- Robare tallied 25 assists and six digs.
- Diaz led the team with 16 digs.
- Akbas tied a career-high with five aces.

- Allegheny improved to 9-3 on the season.
- The Gators are now 18-2 all-time against Fredonia and 2-3 against Houghton.
- Javes and Diaz were named to the All-Tournament Team.
