FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio). That's it; that's the headline.
Miller, Allegheny College women's soccer's star senior, put together one of the greatest performances in program history on Saturday, leading the Gators (2-4-0) to a 5-3 victory over Fredonia State (4-2-0). She played a role in all five Gator goals, scoring four and adding one assist for nine points.
As a result, Allegheny halted Fredonia's four-game win streak.
In a feat not matched in more than two decades, Miller became only the fourth Gator to score at least four times in a game while finishing one goal shy of the record. No Allegheny women's soccer player has finished with four or more goals since September 20, 1997, when Alexis Emrick '99 scored five against Grove City College. Miller's nine points are tied for the second-most in a game in team history, equaling Allegheny Hall of Famer Denise Petrossi Saldaña '90, who logged nine points against Oberlin College on October 15, 1986.
It took a little over four minutes before Miller scored her first goal, and she completed her hat trick by the 47th minute. She also earned an assist on Allegheny's fourth tally netted by first-year midfielder
Madeline Schneider (Poolesville, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) in the 65th minute.
