ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Allegheny men's soccer team was unable to overcome an early second half goal by Nazareth as they fell to the Golden Flyers, 2-1, Saturday (Sept. 14).
Nazareth struck first in the game, scoring on a cross in front of the net in the ninth minute.
The Gators would answer the goal late in the opening half. In the 42nd minute, a freekick by
Cliff Weaver (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) found its way to
Jose Cifuentes (Guatemala City, Guatemala/The Kiski School (Pa.)). Cifuentes quickly capitalized on the opportunity, putting it past the Golden Flyer goalkeeper as the Gators tied the game at one. The goal marked the first in his career.
Following the halftime break, Nazareth scored in the 50th minute o a shot just outside the box that snuck inside the far post.
Allegheny continued to battle the rest of the way, putting three shots on target in the final 40 minutes but were unable to find the back of the net again, falling 2-1.
