Magee Nets Winner Against Oberlin

MEADVILLE, Pa. – A second half goal by Nick Magee (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) proved to be all the Gators needed as they picked up a 1-0 victory at home against Oberlin Thursday (Sept. 12).

The Gators had a pair of attempts in the opening minutes. Brady Napoleon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) had a header just wide of the net minutes before Will Gruca (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) had a shot saved. Jose Cifuentes (Guatemala City, Guatemala/The Kiski School (Pa.)) also had a good attempt, heading a corner, but the attempt was also turned away. Cliff Weaver (Silver Spring, Md./Albert Einstein) and Jacob Kubik-Pauw (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Hanover (N.H.)) also recorded shots on goal in the half, but neither side found the back of the net in the opening 45 minutes.

After keeping up the offensive pressure early in the second half, the Gators finally broke through for the first goal of the game in the 62nd minute. Renen Frank (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) found Magee towards the goal line. Magee quickly shot the ball from a tough angle, beating the Oberlin goalkeeper to the near post for the goal. The goal was the first of the season for Magee.

Oberlin nearly tied the game in the 80th minute, earning a penalty kick. However, the attempt went wide as the Gators maintained the lead.

The Allegheny defense played tough in front of Bennett the rest of the way as they collected the 1-0 win.
