LATROBE, Pa. -- Allegheny College women's tennis earned a 6-1 victory over Saint Vincent College in its 2024 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener on Wednesday afternoon.
Allegheny (2-1, 1-0 PAC) snapped Saint Vincent's (3-1, 0-1) three-match win streak to start the season while earning its 17th consecutive regular-season PAC victory.
The only point the Bearcats took from the Gators came at No. 1 singles. Allegheny won the doubles point by sweeping all three matches, including a 6-0 shutout by
Rei Etsumi (Honolulu, Hawaii/President William McKinley) and
Nicole Serna Cassan (Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico/Grandview Preparatory (Fla.)) in the No. 2 match. Etsumi and Serna Cassan were both double winners, as the duo took down their singles opponents at Nos. 3 and 4, respectively.
First-years
Julia Müsseler (Munich, Germany/Käthe-Kollwitz-Gymnasium) and
Alejandra Villanueva (Bogotá, Colombia/French Touch Academy) earned identical victories with 6-1, 6-0 scores in the second and fifth singles matches.
Maria Lounder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area) bookended the lineup with an unblemished 6-0, 6-0 triumph.
