Women's Soccer Battles Brockport in 2024 Opener

BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The Allegheny College women's soccer team opened its weekend road trip to the Empire State with a 5-0 loss against SUNY Brockport in the first game of the 2024 campaign.

It was a tale of two halves for the Gators (0-1) against the Golden Eagles (1-0), who won 12 games and advanced to the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship game last fall. Allegheny limited Brockport to a single goal in the first half, but the hosts pulled away with a flurry of goals to start the second half.

In just the second game of her collegiate career, goalie Madison Lemanski (Bear, Del./Delaware Military Academy) stood tall against the Golden Eagles. The third-year keeper made 15 saves while facing 34 total shots. Nine of her stops came in the first half as she kept Allegheny within striking distance.

The Gators were held off the scoreboard, but had two of the game's first scoring chances in the 11th and 13th minutes. Emma Miller (Elyria, Ohio/Lake Ridge Academy) and Katherine Surdykowski (Chesterfield, N.J./Northern Burlington County Regional) both put shots on target, but both were denied by Brockport's starting goalie, Karissa Champion.

Inside the Box Score
  • Allegheny finished with 10 shots, including four on goal.
  • Miller led all Gators with five shots and two shots on goal.
  • Brockport's high-powered offense produced 20 shots on goal and seven corner kicks.
  • Lemanski made nine saves in the first half and six more in the second half.
  • Brockport's Sierra Edwards paced all scorers with two goals and one assist.
