BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Allegheny College men's tennis team continued its unbeaten streak against Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opponents with a 9-0 victory over Geneva College on Friday evening.
The Gators (8-5, 3-0 PAC) swept the Golden Tornadoes (5-1, 2-1 PAC) on the indoor courts at Brady's Run Park in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, handing them their first loss of the season.
Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) and
David Rodriguez (St. Ann's, Trinidad & Tobago/Fatima College) opened the match with their ninth consecutive doubles win at the No. 1 position, taking down Geneva's Braiden Smalley and Jadon Hooke by an 8-1 score. At the No. 3 spot,
Guillaume Emiliano Loinard-Gonzalez (Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico/Universidad Jefferson Morelia) and
Reid Stasolla (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) collected their first win together, 8-3.
In singles action, Hedlund handed Smalley his first loss with a 6-1, 6-2 victory. Rodriguez only dropped one game in a 6-1, 6-0 triumph in the second spot.
Will Jarvie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) swept his opponent in the third position.
Second-year netter
Evan Nelson (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) won the closest match of the day. After winning the first set 6-2, Nelson battled to secure the straight-set sweep with a 7-5 victory in the second set.
