GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Allegheny College women's lacrosse team overcame an early deficit and earned its first Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win of the spring by downing Thiel College, 14-8, on Wednesday evening.
Thiel (5-3, 1-1 PAC), who entered the mid-week matchup amidst one of the best starts to a season in program history, looked to continue that success on their home turf early on. The Tomcats netted three in a row to pull ahead 3-1 by the midway point of the first quarter.
However, it didn't take long for the Gators (2-6, 1-1 PAC) to shift momentum in their favor. Allegheny scored nine of the next 10 goals and outscored the Tomcats, 10-2, in the middle quarters.
Emily Herrold (Hampstead, Md./Manchester Valley) netted two tallies within the first 65 seconds of the second quarter to put Allegheny up by one, 4-3. After Thiel evened the score at 4-all, the Gators took full control of the contest by potting six unanswered goals.
Amelia Henderson (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny),
Ashley Amato (Westerly, R.I./Westerly), and Herrold combined for three consecutive goals to bridge the third and fourth quarters, giving Allegheny its largest lead of the game at 13-5.
