GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Allegheny softball dropped a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games on the road at Grove City Tuesday (April 16).
The Wolverines won game one 9-8 on a walkoff home run before taking game two 6-1.
Game One - Grove City 9, Allegheny 8
The Gators got on the board first, scoring in the top of the fourth. An
Olivia Devries (Kent, Ohio/Field) single followed by an error put two runners on.
Arianna Wilkinson (Warren, Ohio/Howland) entered to pinch run for Devries, and scored on a
Sophia Godzak (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) RBI single. The Wolverines plated three runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead.
The Wolverines increased their lead in the bottom of fifth, scoring four more runs to make it 7-1.
Allegheny fought back in the sixth. After
Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) led-off with an infield single, Devries homered to left field, cutting the lead to four. The home run was her sixth of the season and eighth of her career.
The Gators rallied again in the seventh.
Cameron Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) started the inning singling up the middle.
Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) then reached on a fielder's choice as an errant throw allowed Long to move up. Phillips and Devries hit back-to-back singles to score the runners, cutting the lead to three. After a pitching change,
Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) followed up with a two-RBI single. Godzak singled before
Hadley Horensky (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) came through with a clutch double to right field, bringing across Genareo to tie the game at eight.
However, with one out in the bottom of the inning, the Wolverines hit a walkoff home run to take game one, 9-8.
Inside the Box
- Devries went three-of-four with three RBI, including a two-run home run.
- Phillips and Godzak each drove in a run on two hits.
- Horensky had a RBI double while Genareo had an RBI single.
Game Two - Grove City 6, Allegheny 1
The Wolverines put up a pair of runs on three hits in the first to take an early lead.
Allegheny made up a run in the third.
Madison Hulse (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) got the inning started with a double. Belardinelli would eventually drive her in on a fielder's choice play, cutting the lead in half.
Grove City would go on to score once in the fifth three times in the sixth, however, to seal the win.
Inside the Box
- Phillips and Hulse each doubled.
- Hulse struck out six batters.

- The Gators moved to 19-7 overall and 10-4 in PAC play.
- Allegheny is now 29-9 all-time against Grove City.
