BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Allegheny softball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on the road at Geneva Monday (April 15).
The Gators picked up a 4-2 win in the opening game before falling in game two, 4-1.
Game One - Allegheny 4, Geneva 2
The Gators threatened many times throughout the contest, hitting three doubles in the first six innings, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunities. In the sixth, the Gators had runners on the corners with two outs, but
Hadley Horensky's (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) line drive up the middle was snagged by the pitcher.
Allegheny finally broke the game open in the seventh, scoring four runs.
Audrey Blarr (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) opened the inning with an infield single.
Cameron Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) laid down a sacrifice bunt, and reached on a throwing error to put runners on the corners.
Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) followed up with an RBI single to left field as the Gators broke up the scoreless tie.
Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) then had her own infield single, scoring Long. A sacrifice fly by
Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) brought Belardinelli home before
Sophia Godzak (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) drove Phillips home with a single for the final run.
The Golden Tornadoes fought back in the bottom of the seventh, scoring a pair of runs, but it was not enough to overcome the top of the inning the Gators produced.
Inside the Box
- Belardinelli earned her ninth win of the season. In the complete game, she allowed just two runs on four hits while striking out eight. At the plate, she had an RBI single.
- Phillips went three-of-four with a double and an RBI.
- Godzak had a multi-hit game with a double while driving in a run.
- Genareo had a double and a sacrifice fly.
Game Two - Geneva 4, Allegheny 1
Geneva got out to a fast start, scoring four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first.
Allegheny threatened in the second with a pair of baserunners, but the Golden Tornadoes got out of the jam.
The Gators got on the board in the sixth. Belardinelli and Phillips singles in the inning. Belardinelli would come across the plate on a wild pitch to cut the lead to three. However, Geneva held off the Gators the rest of the way to split the series.
Inside the Box
- Belardinelli had a hit and scored the lone run.
- Phillips, Godzak and Horensky also had hits.
- Samantha Dzierba (Colden, N.Y./Orchard Park) struck out four batters.

- Allegheny moved to 19-5 overall and 10-2 in PAC play.
- The Gators are now 14-8 all-time against Geneva.
- The game one victory gave the Gators their second nine game win streak of the season.
