Men's Tennis Shuts Out W&J For Fifth Consecutive Win

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Despite playing in heavy winds at Washington and Jefferson College's  Janet Swanson Tennis Center, the Allegheny College men's tennis team earned its fifth consecutive victory by taking down the Presidents, 9-0.

The shutout was not only Allegheny's (10-5, 5-0 PAC) fifth straight win, but the Gators managed to halt W&J's (6-8, 3-3 PAC) three-match win streak.

Highlighting Sunday's doubles action was the duo of Anton Hedlund (Hovas, Sweden/Katrinelundsgymnasiet) and David Rodriguez (St. Ann's, Trinidad & Tobago/Fatima College), who secured their 11th consecutive victory as Allegheny's top team. In the No. 3 spot, sophomores Evan Nelson (Scituate, Mass./Scituate) and Nathan Kisiel (Erie, Pa./Fairview) teamed up for the first time this season and won by an 8-3 score.

Hedlund only dropped one game in singles action, while Rodriguez only lost two. The Gators also beat the Presidents in straight sets at Nos. 4, 5, and 6. The only exception was the third singles battle between Will Jarvie (Wilton, Conn./Wilton) and Abhinav Yarramaneni. Jarvie took the opening set, 6-2, and clinched the win in a super tiebreak by a 10-6 score.
