Hulse Tosses Perfect Game as Gators Move to 8-0

LEESBURG, Fla. – Allegheny softball first-year pitcher Madison Hulse (San Diego, Calif./Rancho Bernardo) tossed a perfect game as the Gators collected two more wins in Florida Thursday (March 7).

Hulse was perfect aganst Russell Sage in a 8-0, five inning game while the Gators concluded the sweep by defeating Bluffton 9-7 in game two.

Game One - Allegheny 8, Russell Sage 0 (5 innings)

Hulse threw a perfect game one for the Gators. In five innings of work, Hulse struck out seven without allowing a base runner. Her performance was the 25th no-hitter in Allegheny history but just the fourth perfect game, and the first since Hall of Famer Laurie Machuga Grile did it last in 1996. The previous three perfect games all were pitched by Machuga Grile.

Aleya Belardinelli (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore) led off the bottom of the first with a single up the middle. Sofia Genareo (Lakewood, N.Y./Southwestern Central) brought her home with a RBI single to center.

Hadley Horensky (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Seton LaSalle Catholic) hit a double to start the second. Audrey Blarr (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) followed up with a single to the same spot to put runners on the corners. Then on a double steal, Horensky came across to plate to increase the lead to 2-0. Cameron Long (Midlothian, Va./Midlothian) tripled to right field, driving home Blarr. Halle Book (Wexford, Pa./North Catholic) kept it going with a bloop single that scored Long. After Olivia Devries (Kent, Ohio/Field) reached on an error, Genareo recorded her second RBI of the game. Devries was the final run of the inning as the Gators led 6-0 after two.

For the third straight inning, the Gators led off with a hit, this time by Samantha Phillips (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon). An error and another hit by Blarr loaded the bases. Belardinelli singled to left field to plate Phillips. Book was walked with the bases loaded to increase the lead to 8-0.

After a scoreless fourth and fifth, Hulse completed the perfect game by striking out the final two batters.
