ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. -- The Allegheny College women's tennis team fell in a tough matchup against Concordia University Wisconsin on Wednesday afternoon by an 8-1 final score.
The Falcons (13-2), who won the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) championship and qualified for the NCAA tournament a year ago, gave up only one point at No. 6 singles.
Freshman
Omega Ba (Orlando, Fla./Edgewater) was victorious against CUW's Peyton Morgan in the sixth spot. Ba won her seventh consecutive singles match dating back to September by downing Morgan by a 6-3, 6-2 score.
Allegheny (10-5) played several close matches against Concordia Wisconsin's singles lineup. At No. 1, Emillia Grydnieva (Kyiv, Ukraine/Optima) battled the 39th-ranked singles player in the country, Ricki Budewitz, to a 6-4, 6-4 result.
Maria Lounder (Pittsburgh, Pa./Moon Area) won the first set against Mallory Moen but was outlasted in a super tiebreak, 12-10.
Rei Etsumi (Honolulu, Hawaii/President William McKinley) also pushed her match against Mia Andrae to a second-set tiebreak but could not force an extra set.
